  • Diet soda is an alternative to regular soda, but neither is healthy. You are merely trading calories from sugar for chemicals of questionable nature.

The Bitter Side of Diet Soda: Strokes - Yahoo! News

At least my body knows what to do with sugar (and i do mean sugar, not corn syrup).

When I grew up, which was not that long ago, soda was a treat.  Not a beverage for every meal, and not the primary source of liquid.

It was the college dorm, and the cafeteria plan that made me a daily soda drinker…  Possibly the worst health decision I ever made, and I am still struggling to deal with it.

Even in college I realized that it was a bad choice, even though it was nearly the only one we had.  So I switched to diet pepsi, thinking it would be “better for me”

It was two years of unsolvable intestinal issues before I realized that my body couldn’t digest aspartame (Nutra Sweet).  Ditching “sugar free” from my diet almost instantly cured me.

It’s nearly twenty years later and soda manufacturers still use aspartame in their diet drinks, even in the so called new ones such as Coke Zero and Pepsi Max.

Personally, and obviously based personal experience not science, I think artificial sweeteners, specifically aspartame, will be the next asbestos.   The FDA, should be looking into this now, but the food lobbies, and soda companies pay for all the research.

Someone should come back to this post in the year 2031, and see if I was right.  I’ll be just shy of 60 then, and ready to file my law suit.  ;-)
